JEP - there is another one that takes a text based equation and be able to evaluation it. This is GPL or a commercial license.
http://www.maplesoft.com/standards/MathML/Viewer/ - mathml viewer via applet, not open source but free jar file
http://www.dessci.com/en/products/webeq/ - not free but pretty good mathml editor in Java
